Edgar Wright was attending Concordia College in Moorhead when his dad, Edgar, Sr., died suddenly in 1953. It was necessary for him to transfer to the University of Minnesota where he finished a degree in Mortuary Science before returning home to take over management of Wright Funeral Home, from his mother, Hanny. Edgar conceived and oversaw the building of a new modern facility for Wright Funeral Home in 1960, a building that continues to serve the community well over forty years later. Continuing the family tradition of service to the community, Edgar served on many civic boards and committees including the Trinity Council (president), Moorhead Chamber Of Commerce (president), Moorhead Rotary Club (president), the national board of directors for Selected Independent Funeral Homes, Clay County Historical Society (president), seventeen years as a member of the Moorhead Housing and Redevelopment Authority (thirteen years as Chair), and in 1965 was awarded the Distinguished Service Award, Young man of the year by the Moorhead Jaycees. Retiring in 1992, when he sold his interest in the business to his sons, Steve and Chip. Edgar continues to serve Wright Funeral Home as a consultant and occasionally helps to direct funerals.
