Alice Lenora Gross

Alice Lenora Gross, 94, Moorhead, MN, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead.
Alice Lenora Johnson was born on January 10, 1922 in Hawley, MN, to Edwin and Ida Nordling Johnson. She attended the Spring Prairie rural school.
Alice worked in Minneapolis during WWII and this is where she met her husband, Benjamin Gross. They were married on September 18, 1943 in the Naval Chapel at Bremerton, WA. After the war they ranched near Riverton, WY before moving to a farm near Lake Park, MN in 1948. Alice and her husband farmed there until retirement in 1972, when they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN.
She had been an active member of Eksjo Lutheran Church near Lake Park, where she sang in the choir. In Detroit Lakes, she became an active member at Emmanuel Lutheran and was a dedicated volunteer at Emmanuel Nursing Home and St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed gardening.
Her husband, Ben, died in 1989 and she moved to Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead in 2010.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Sally Nels Backman, Fargo, ND, and Jean Mike Hansen, Weston, Florida; brother Julian Betty Johnson, Hawley, MN; sisters Lillian Gruhl, Lake Park, MN, and Marlys Ken Christianson, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-law Harriet Johnson, Lake Park, MN; three grandchildren Heather Zambrano, Adam Hansen and Brynn SchergerSologuk; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Nick; sisters Edla, Esther and Louise; brothers Carl and Ronald.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 28, 2016, from Noon until 1:30 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Funeral: Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 1:30 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Interment: Eksjo Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Park, MN.
