Audrey Hiney

Audrey Parker Neff Hiney, 89, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, at home under the care of her loving family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Audrey was born November 2, 1927, to Norman Parker and Helen Dorothy Peterson Neff. She grew up in Crookston where she graduated from high school. She married Duane Hiney November 27, 1949 in East Grand Forks, MN. Duane and Audrey had four daughters that they raised in Grand Forks. Audrey was an accomplished musician, directing many choirs and performing solos. She continued her education at the University of North Dakota where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music. While in Grand Forks, she began her work in Campus Ministry at Christus Rex on the UND campus. Audrey furthered her theological education throughout her career. She was appointed by North Dakota Governor Art Link to be the President on the Commission on the Status of Women. In 1979, she moved to Chicago, IL and was employed by the Lutheran Church in the USA as editor of the publications of all synods. Next Audrey became the Director of Development and Recruitment for the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. She retired to Moorhead and Long Lost Lake in 1989.

Audrey loved spending time at her cabin on Long Lost Lake. She enjoyed her time outdoors, nature, her flowers and gardening, but most of all loved her time with family. She will be dearly missed.

Audrey is survived by her daughters, Christa Parker Lesmeister Anderson Steve, Deidre Kolotkin Richard, Faith Simonson Gary, Leslie Pender; grandchildren, Ada Solidar, Allison Parker Terriff Guy, Grant Simonson Lyndsey, Gregory Simonson Noelle; and sisters, Lois Robertson Robbie and Jeanne Madson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, DeWayne “Slice” Lesmeister; and brother-in-law, Manley Madson, Jr., and many beloved friends.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m., at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 401 – 40th Avenue S., Moorhead, MN, with a dinner to follow.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, following the meal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Bethesda Lutheran Church.
