Audrey Knauf

Audrey Pitsenbarger Knauf, 91, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, September 15, 2017, at Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead. Audrey was born May 19, 1926, in Moorhead, to Ray and Lena Reiersgord Pitsenbarger. She grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating in 1944. Shortly after graduation, she went to Washington D.C. to work during the war. On December 1, 1947, Audrey married Mathias Knauf. Together they make their home in Moorhead. They owned and operated Matty’s Superette in Moorhead for 20 years. In 1963, they bought the Hill Lounge in Glyndon. After retiring in 1971, they moved to their lake home on Floyd Lake, and she remained there until moving into Detroit Lakes in 1997. In 2007, Audrey moved back to Moorhead and lived at Waters Edge apartments. Most recently she had resided at Eventide Senior Living. Audrey enjoyed going to Florida in the winter to spend time with friends, golfing there and at Detroit Lakes Country Club, playing Bridge and most of all spending time with her family.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Nancy Roger Richards of Moorhead, MN; sons, Wayne Diana Knauf of Alexandria, MN, and Terry Knauf of Moorhead, MN, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathias; an infant child; son, Lawrence; her parents; and brother, Lyle Pitsenbarger.

Memorial gathering will be Sunday, September 24, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.

Memorial service will be Monday, September 25, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
