Burton Langerud

Burton was born on the family farm on January 16th, 1924 and attended a country school near the farm. He farmed with his father and eventually purchased the family farm. He married Maxine on December 7th, 1945. They had six sons; Marvin Joyce of Fargo, Roger Ona, Hitterdal, Barry Gwynn, Hawley, Kent Ardith, Brian Audrey, Hawley and Grant Tammy, Hawley. He is also survived by his older brother Gordon Marlyn of Hawley. Burton and Maxine ran the farm as a fairly large dairy operation and eventually, three sons, Roger, Barry and Grant joined the farming operation which is now hogs and crops. Today Grant’s sons, Logan and Brock are joining the farming operation as the 4th generation of Langerud’s farming in Keene Township. He and Maxine have 11 Grandchildren, and 9 surviving Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Selma Renslow Langerud, his wife, Maxine Nelson Langerud from Lisbon, ND, son, Kent Langerud and great granddaughter Melissa Purcell.
Burton was named an Outstanding Young Farmer in the fifties and he also served on the Board of Directors for the Production Credit Association of Moorhead for 26 years. In addition he was a long term treasurer for his home church, Keene Lutheran until it closed, and he became a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal.
His family will remember Burton as a great but firm parent, an innovative farmer, a hard worker, a dedicated caregiver to our mother for nearly 40 years and as a humble individual who avoided drawing attention to himself. He spent his retirement years tending a large yard and garden as well as woodworking. When the arthritis got the better of him he spent considerable time watching RFD TV, the commodity markets and completing detailed fret work on his scroll saws. We will miss him.
