Clarence “Kelly” Piepkorn

Clarence “Kelly” Piepkorn, 81, Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, June 9, 2014, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Clarence D. Piepkorn was born on October 9, 1932 in Stanley, ND, to Herman and Olga Hoaas Piepkorn. He grew up farming and attended school there, graduating from Stanley High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 until 1954 and then worked in the oil fields of Colorado and North Dakota and for the railroad. He used the G.I. Bill to attend NDAC NDSU and graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics and Education.

Clarence worked for Midland Cooperatives in Minneapolis and was their district sales manager in Warren, MN for nine years. He was co-owner of Valley Chemical Laboratories in Fargo from 1970 until 1990. He was the owner of Piepkorn’s Inc. and started Peplawn Corporation in 1984 now run by his son.

Clarence was a member of the VFW in Pelican Rapids, MN, and a sixty year member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Joan Piepkorn, Moorhead, MN; sons G. Scott Piepkorn, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jon Piepkorn, Fiji Islands; daughter Stacy Piepkorn, Moorhead, MN; two grandchildren, Jacob Whitmore Lamb and Brienna Louise Lamb; brother Merrill Connie Piepkorn, Fargo, ND; sisters Lila John Erickson, Terra Bella, CA, Janet Ralph Hayes, Emmett, ID, and Lenora Bill Weinerth, Ventura, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, H. Donald Piepkorn and LeRoy Piepkorn.

Memorial Gathering: Tuesday, June 17, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at 2:00 P.M., in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
