Dale Hillstrom

Dale Hillstrom, 83, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Saturday, November 19 at Eventide in Fargo, ND.

Dale was born on September 7, 1933 in Pettibone, ND to Edwin and Esther Snell Hillstrom. From Pettibone, Dale moved to Jamestown with his family where he graduated from Jamestown High School. He began working his lifelong career as a lineman and service technician at Northwestern Bell Telephone in Jamestown, ND. On November 19, 1954, Dale married Mary Lou Morris. They moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1956 and later moved to Fargo in November of 1981, all the while working for North Western Bell Telephone. He retired from the telephone company on February 28, 1986. On November 21, 1991, Mary Lou passed away. To pick up his spirits, Dale decided to go dancing one day and met Melba Sorvick in 1992. Dale loved to travel, dance, go camping, woodworking, working on do it yourself projects, hunting, fishing and always enjoyed having a good time. He and his buddy would fox hunt in the winter and it is said that Dale was the shooter because he was a better shot. His most cherished hobby though was flying his airplane, an Aeronca Defender with wheels on in the summer and skis in the winter. Dale was an active charter member of chapter 380 Experimental Aircraft Association throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s. When a neighbor or a friend was in need of help, Dale would be the first one there to lend a hand and would always greet anyone with a smile.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Carla Hillstrom; Son, Robert Karin Hillstrom; grandchildren, Angela White, Emily Danny Marto Purpur Marto, Jason Hilstrom, Justin Jessica Hillstrom, and Dominik Hillstrom; Great-Grandchildren, Aaron Neave, Nolan, Alaina, and Maevy Marto; Sister, Jean Nelson; and significant other, Melba Sorvick, and many other loving relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Lou; Parents; Brothers, Harold, Edgar, and Carl; Sister, Mary May Lancer.

Services will take place on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN at 11:00 A.M. with a visitation one hour prior to services with open mic eulogies. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Jamestown, ND following services.
