Dale Powers

Dale Michael Powers, 65, of Fargo, ND, died peacefully Sunday, October 18, 2015, at his home surrounded by his wife and family, love and honor. He was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and his loving wife.

Dale was born on October 12, 1950 to Dana and Grace Minnehan Powers in Breckenridge, MN. He grew up in Moorhead and Breckenridge, MN. Dale graduated from Moorhead High School a proud Spud in 1969. Dale went on to play football at MSU and was a dedicated member of the Owls. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1971 and served in Okinawa Japan until his release in 1973; when he returned home to his first wife Pam Emery Gallagher and young daughter, Jenna.

Dale worked at Steiger, BNSF and Arthur’s restaurant in Walker, MN. It is here, with the Hanson’s that he learned of his passion for wonderful food, wine and exceptional customer service. On the side, he followed in his father’s footsteps and refereed football and basketball. His referee buddies became lifelong friends sharing many memories together. In 2003, Karen Stoker had the incredible vision to hire Dale. Through her and the Hodo he found his stability and his calling. He loved his job, clients and his Hodo “kids”. He retired in 2014 after his Melanoma diagnosis.

Dale appreciated this community which gave back to him so generously. He was humbled by the outpouring of love. Dale celebrated life. He enjoyed his family, good food and wine, hunting, fishing, traveling, playing cribbage, golfing and socializing at Moorhead Country Club, and refereeing all sports from the bleachers. Heath Blizzards from the Moorhead Dairy Queen helped him through most of the rough times during his illness.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife Kimberly Brinks-Kays of Fargo, ND; his beautiful children, Ben Erin Powers, Fargo, ND, Jenna Rick Geyen, Tamarack, MN, Sydney Kays and Christian Kays; exceptional grandchildren, Jack and Emme Powers and Claire and Cooper Geyen; fabulous siblings, David Powers Barb Olson Detroit Lakes, MN, Diane Koole, Cushing, MN, Denise Mike Anderson, Moorhead, MN, and Duane “Dewey” Cathy Powers, Fargo, ND; his father’s wife, Virginia “Ginny” Powers, Rochert, MN; the Halseth family and his in-laws, Marian Feenstra, Curt and Shirley Brinks and Sherry Ross; numerous and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and his Hodo family and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dana M. Powers and brother-in-law, Pete Koole.

Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN. A luncheon will be held at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, following the interment.
