Dorothy Goos, age 74, entered the kingdom of heaven on Saturday evening, October 20, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.Dorothy was born April 10, 1938 in Warroad, Minnesota, the daughter of Haakon and Mamie Pellet Brekke. She attended elementary classes in a one-room country schoolhouse near Roosevelt, Minnesota. Dorothy graduated from Williams High School in 1956, as the salutatorian of her class.On August 16, 1958, in Roseau, Minnesota, she was united in marriage to Ronald Goos. They moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she supported Ron in his veterinary studies at the University of Minnesota by working in the veterinary diagnostic laboratory.After graduation, the couple made their home in Ada, Minnesota until later moving to neighboring Mahnomen where they opened a veterinary practice, where Dorothy managed the clinic and kept the books.Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, where she taught Sunday School, and shared her musical abilities by directing the youth choir, and playing the organ for many years. She took pleasure in learning about new things and enjoyed making friends through the Mahnomen Library Club, and her monthly ladies bridge club.Dorothy loved to read and along with encouraging her own children to love books, she led the Great Books reading group at the local elementary school.In 2005, Dorothy and Ron retired and moved to Moorhead, Minnesota to be closer to their grandchildren, enjoying school and sport activities. Dorothy continued her love for art and culture by joining the Fine Arts Club in Fargo, and regularly attending the F-M Symphony Orchestra.After joining Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, she participated in bible studies and service groups.Throughout her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed family and friends, playing her piano and organ, and traveling with Ron. She became the family historian, writing and publishing, "Brekke Heritage" in 2007, chronicling the stories of her Norwegian ancestors, who became homesteaders in Minnesota.Dorothy is survived by Ronald, her husband of 54 years, children: Shirley Hayer, Fargo, ND, Sheldon, Fargo, ND, Russell Sara, White Bear Lake, MN, grandchildren: Rudy Sha'tanya Wilson and Eden Hayer, children of Brian Hayer, Markos Holland, Vivian Goos, daughter of Angela Goos, and great granddaughter Jazmeka Hayer. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carrie.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Susan B. Komen Foundation, or Fine Arts Club of Fargo, ND.
