Douglas Lomsdal

July 23, 1932 — April 5, 2014

Douglas Palmer Lomsdal was born to Albert and Mabel LundLomsdal on July 23, 1932 near Calgary, Alberta Canada. He spent his childhood years in Canada, moving to Fargo, North Dakota when he entered the 8th grade. One of Doug’s early jobs was a car detailer at Wallwork Ford. One of the highlights of that job was driving Mr. Wallwork home for lunch Saturday’s in a brand new car. This is where his lifelong interest in cars began.In high school, Doug and his friends would go roller skating in Moorhead. He met his high school sweet heart Margaret Adams, at the rink. Doug graduated from Fargo Central High in 1950. He also attended Fargo Interstate Business College. Doug married the love of his life, Margaret, on February 27th, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Margaret’s death in 2011.

Doug was a bricklayer, which was his passion. He was partner in Moll and Lomsdal Masonry Contractors and owner of DougLomsdal Construction. Doug was a hard working person and took great pride in building homes and apartment buildings in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas. He was a member of F-M Home Builders and served as president in 1977, as well as a lifetime Spike member.
The Lomsdal’s enjoyed 50 years on Lake Ida, where Doug loved driving fast boats and giving pontoon rides. Here he also mademany lifetime friends around the area.

Doug was a member of the Valley Vintage Car Club, where he enjoyed showing his cars off. He spent many Sunday evenings cheering on the race car drivers at the Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon. He also rarely missed a Moorhead Spud’s basketball game over the years and would be seen many times on the 10:00 evening sports eating popcorn.

Doug had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and was a member of Cormorant Lutheran for 30 years. Doug was a member of the Eagles and Cormorant Lions. He was a full blooded Norwegian and was known for his Lomsdal goodbyes!

He is survived by his children, daughter Sandra Mark Maringof Hendrum, MN and their son Luke; son Scott NancyLomsdal of Moorhead, MN and their children Katie Brandon Johnson great grandchildren Annaka and Bennett, Joe KelseyLomsdal of Moorhead, MN great granddaughter Aspen;daughter Shannon James Schlanser of Fargo, ND and their children Ashley and Michael; and son Steven Kim Lomsdal of Moorhead, MN. Sister Shirley Matula, Kent, WA; numerous nieces and nephews, special friend Shirley Krogen, Fargo ND.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; his parents and sibilings Malbert, Donnie, Orris and Ardel Skeim.

Visitation: Monday, April 14, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN, and one hour before the funeral at the church.

Funeral: Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 1:30 P.M. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
