Elfie Skaalrud

Elfie Skaalrud, 93, of Moorhead, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Eventide in Moorhead.

Elfie Elizabeth Mayer was born in Moorhead and adopted 3 days later by Martha and Godfrey Mayer, the best people a person could have ever had. Elfie went to M.S.T. Campus School for 12 years and enjoyed it very much. In 1939 she went to work at Grant’s retail store for a few years and then she worked at National Tea for 7 years. She met the love of her life, Harold Ed Skaalrud, there in November of 1946 and they were married in her parent’s home on July 12, 1947. In 1949 they were blessed with a baby boy, Bruce, and in 1952 their daughter Barbara came into their lives. Elfie stayed home for 12 years to raise her children. When Barb was 10 years old, Elfie worked in food services at Concordia for 1 school year and then she worked at Red Owl for the next 18 years. Bruce and his wonderful wife, Diane, live in Zwolle, LA. He was a dentist for 40 years and is now retired. Barbara was a speech therapist for 36 years, helping many children during that time, and is now retired. Barbara gave Elfie two wonderful grandchildren, Adam and Katelyn. In 1994 Barbara married Rodney DeSautel and with him came two wonderful sons, Scott and Thomas, so Elfie was blessed with 4 grandchildren, the best in the world. Thomas is married, to Anne, and they brought baby Savannah into Elfie’s life as a great-grandchild in July 2014.

Elfie was very blessed with a wonderful life thanks to all the great people who are her family and friends. Elfie believed that God has been so good to her and her wish is “God Bless You All.”

Elfie is survived by her son , Bruce Diane Skaalrud and her daughter, Barbara Rod DeSautel, four grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ed.
