Emmanuel Manny Dahlsad

Emmanuel Manny Dahlsad, 87, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, June 3, 2013 from Merkel Cell Cancer, a rare and aggressive skin cancer, under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Emmanuel Ardel Dahlsad, the son of Claus Martin and Evangeline Dahlsad, was born on October 23, 1925, on his parent’s farm near Georgetown MN. He attended country school in the Georgetown area as well as the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston MN before entering the US Army in September 1944. He proudly served on the front lines in the Philippines and was part of the first infantry to occupy Japan after WWII. After an honorable discharge in October 1946 he returned to Georgetown.

Manny married Gladys Irene Besrud of Portland ND, on November 23, 1948, in Moorhead, MN. They made their home on the farm he purchased near Georgetown MN, farming small grains and beets until 1988. Farming was his passion. Manny and Gladys moved to Moorhead after his retirement and up until the last few years they spent most of their winters in Arizona. He enjoyed his large vegetable and flower gardens, always sharing his accomplishments with family and friends. Manny enjoyed writing in his journals and kept a diary for over 40 years recording his events every day. His family; his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife Gladys of 64 years; his daughter Marie Hallett Thomas Fargo ND; two grandsons: Jeremy Hallett, Eden Prairie MN, and Ryan Hallett Catherine of Minnetrista MN. He leaves three great-grandchildren: Emily, Madelyn, and Benjamin Hallett of Minnetrista MN. He is survived by two brothers, Herbert and Vernon, Moorhead MN. He was preceded in death by his sister Violet, and two brothers, Clifford and Orville. This kind and gentle man will be missed.

Visitation: Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.

Funeral: Friday, June 7, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., in North Buffalo Lutheran Church, Kragnes, MN.

Interment: North Buffalo Lutheran Church Cemetery.
