Eunice Stensland

Eunice J. Stensland, 86, of Moorhead, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Bethany on University in Fargo.

Eunice Jean Long was born July 7, 1930 in Fargo, ND, to Leal and Margaret Yunker Long. She attended school in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School. After graduating she worked for Service Drug and also as a candy striper at St. John’s Hospital. On September 1, 1952 she married Melvin C. Stensland. Eunice was primarily a homemaker as they farmed in Moorhead. Melvin died on February 24, 1994 and Eunice continued to live on the Stensland family farm until moving to Bethany on University in March of 2014.

Eunice participated in the Silver Follies, volunteered for 25 years at St. Joseph’s Catholic school in Moorhead doing various duties, and was a previous member of the Oakport Township Board. Her hobbies included volunteering, collecting coupons, thrift store shopping, cruising the boulevards during clean-up week, and eating Chinese food.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Wirth, North Beach, MD; sons, David Ruth, Fargo, Jeff, Dilworth, MN, and Mark, Moorhead; sister, Joan Miller, Moorhead; grandchildren Rebecca Wirth, Newburg, MD, Anthony Wirth Kristi Burnham, Moorhead, and Sarah Stensland Dawn Grieg, Fargo; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her special, long-time friend, Bill Schlichting, West Fargo, ND.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
