Georgia Nelson

Georgia M. Nelson, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Friday, August 3, 2012, in the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.Georgia Chambers was born to George and Ella Chambers at Merricourt, ND, on May 6, 1927. She attended country schools through 6th grade and graduated from Edgeley, ND, high school in 1945. She worked for F.W. Woolworth's in Bismarck until she married Paul G. Nelson on November 22, 1948. They travelled with highway construction crews until they settled in Moorhead in 1945. Georgia attended one year at Dakota Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Twin City Construction Company, G.B. Haug Construction, Eventide Lutheran Home, Sons of Norway, and Halverson Investment Company until retiring at the age of 81. She also had a home office where she did payroll for several small contractors. Georgia did payroll work for Haugen Masonry for 47 years. Paul and Georgia built a cabin on Upper Cormorant Lake in the sixties with friends and neighbors Bill Ford and Vince Haugen and families, they enjoyed many summers together and the Fords and Haugens became her extended family. She was a very active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed miscellaneous crafts and hobbies and loved dancing. Her husband, Paul, died on July 26, 1967. She also loved her "granddogs".Georgia is survived by her son John "Jack" Shellie Nelson, Bismarck, ND.Georgia's family would like to express their gratitude to Golden Living Center, the Physical Therapy staff and Hospice for their kind, thoughtful and comforting care given to Georgia in her final weeks. Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, or your favorite charity.
