Grace Nelson

Grace E. Nelson, 85, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Eventide in Moorhead.

Grace Elaine Johnson was born November 11, 1931, in Lisbon, ND, to Joseph and Olga Johnson. Grace loved to tell the story of how they celebrated the day she was born by shooting off a cannon at the Veteran’s Home in Lisbon-it was Armistice Day! She grew up in Lisbon and graduated from high school there in 1949. Grace was proud to tell the story of how she immediately hopped on a bus, moved to Fargo, picked up a newspaper, and began looking for a job. She was immediately hired at Bell Telephone and worked in accounting there for 33 years, retiring at the age of 50. Grace was an independent woman, very proud of coming here and being able to make it on her own.

Grace was united in marriage to Oscar Nelson on March 20, 1971. They made their home in Moorhead and they lovingly cared for their nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as if they were their own children. They were very close to their family and spent many holidays together. Most of their travels over the years were to visit family. Grace enjoyed attending many activities of her family, including sporting events of her nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar; sister, Marian Tack, Bloomington, MN; brother, Curt Jolaine Johnson, Lakeville, MN; brothers-in-law, Jerry Suda, Bismarck, ND and Ken Keldsen, Westby, MT, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Joan Keldsen and Diane Suda, and brothers, Milton Johnson and Don Johnson.
