Harland J Beach

Harland John Beach-loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend-passed away peacefully at his home on September 22, 2013. Harland was a longtime resident and entrepreneur in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Harland was born on August 19, 1923, in Long Prairie, MN, to Emma Schroeder and Roland Beach. He was raised in Long Prairie and often told stories about his mischievous childhood adventures. Harland enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in May 1943 and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.

On May 6, 1948, Harland married Phyllis Ullman in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Through the years, Harland and Phyllis lived in Long Prairie, MN, Alexandria, MN, Riverton, WY, Detroit Lakes, MN and finally settled in the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1960. Together, Harland and Phyllis raised their six children and owned and operated F-M Vending, United Music and the Pirates’ Den.

Harland Beach wore many different hats during his lifetime. He was a World War II veteran, a pilot, a crop dust sprayer, a prospector, a successful businessman, and a true friend to many. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Harland is survived by his children, Harland Jr. Phyllis Beach, Rollie Michelle Beach, Jenny, Carol Dan Treat and John Cecilia Beach; his 12 grandchildren and his 17 great-grandchildren. Harland is also survived by his sister, Luella Schmitt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harland was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Gregory; his great-grandson, Daniel Jacob Beach II; and his sisters, Sally and Wilma.

Memorial Service: Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in Wright’s Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, with visitation one hour prior to the memorial service.

Harland’s family would like to express their gratitude to Kind-er Care and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their help in keeping our Dad comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
