Helen Larson

Helen Larson, 89, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Ecumen Cottages in Detroit Lakes, MN. Helen was born on March 12, 1928 to Obert and Olga Davidson Lindland in Cando, ND. Helen graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and then attended Moorhead State where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

Helen went on to teach elementary school in Barnesville, MN for three years. She was united in marriage to Raymond Larson on August 12, 1951 in Thief River Falls, MN. After their marriage, Helen and Raymond moved to Moorhead, MN and Helen began teaching the 1st grade at Horace Mann Elementary School in Fargo, ND for 30+ years.

Helen enjoyed singing in the choir and playing piano for Bethesda Lutheran Church and had a knack for painting ceramics. She also loved to spend her summers with her family at their lake cabin on Fish Lake. After their retirement, Helen and Raymond would spend a month every year in Arizona visiting their son and many friends in the Tucson area.

Helen is survived by her children, Nancy Bill Berg, and Bob Karen Larson; grandchildren, Megan Dylan Bartel, Kelli Berg, Jaime Berg, Derek Rochella Larson, Marisa Curtis Klinga Larson, and Sean Larson; great-grandchildren, Jayda Bartel, Evvy Bartel, Oliver Larson, and Roman Klinga; brother, Arnold Lindland; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Richard Larson; and sister, Bernice Magnuson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017, at 2:00PM at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. The burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery following services at the church.
