James “Jim” Shorey

James Shorey passed away August 14, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND under Hospice care with his family by his side.

James “Jim” Joseph Shorey was born June 9, 1947 in Devils Lake, ND to Margaret and John “Jack” Shorey.

Jim grew up in Devils Lake, ND and enjoyed the outdoors and played sports in school. Jim received a scholarship to play hockey at UND.

Jim served in the US Army from 1968-1970 and 1971-1974. After leaving the service he managed an S&L Store in Harvey, ND. Jim and Marcella Hall Shorey were married in Devils Lake, ND on August 6, 1976. Jim and Marcella settled in Dilworth, MN in 1990 and have lived there ever since.

Jim started his over thirty year career in the private security industry with Western Protection in Fargo, ND and worked for major providers in the industry to include: Bismarck-Mandan Security, A.S.P. of Moorhead, Inc., American Security and Protection, and Advance Security. Jim was one of the original six owners of Alpha 6, Inc. and was currently the VP of JCJ Consulting, Inc. which he started with his son John and daughter-in-law Chantel.

Jim spent the majority of his career with A.S.P. of Moorhead, Inc. where he was a Senior Corporate Supervisor. Jim was a licensed Private Investigator and Security Provider in North Dakota and Licensed Protective Agent in the Minnesota. Jim was the first Armed Commissioned Security Officer in the State of North Dakota after a complete overhaul of the industry regulations.

Jim is survived by his wife Marcella Shorey of Dilworth, MN and their children; son John Chantel Shorey of Fargo, ND, daughter Kimberly Christopher Kotzer of Fargo, ND, son Joseph Shorey Samantha Fromm of Fargo, ND, and his daughter Kristin Jones of Devils Lake, ND, brother David Shorey of Arizona, sister Patty Steve Hoffart of Fargo, ND, and grandchildren Danica, Jack and has one on the way.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, mother, and a number of other relatives.

Jim was a very good man.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, from 5 – 7 p.m., with prayer service at 6 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
