James Schiffner

James G. Schiffner, 75, of Lake Park, MN, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

James George Schiffner was born May 23, 1940 in Fargo, ND to George and Gertrude McDaniel Schiffner. He grew up in Verona, ND and graduated from high school there in 1958.
On October 15, 1966 he married Joan Titus in Oakes, ND. In the early years he worked in farming, and later went into the grain elevator business, eventually becoming manager at the Verona elevator in the 1970’s. In 1976 Jim and Joan moved to Lake Park, MN and he became the manager for the grain elevator there. In the 1980’s, Jim was the mayor of Lake Park, while at the same time his twin brother, John, was mayor of Verona. In the late 1980’s, Jim worked in management at the American Legion Post 181 in Lake Park until he retired in 2013.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing, traveling with his wife to various places, including Sweden, and road-trips with his grandkids. Jim was very outgoing and loved visiting with people, and he was especially well-known for his potato salad.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Mark Kelly Schiffner, Audubon, MN; his brother, Ronald Beverly Schiffner, Fargo; his sister, Patricia Neal Steinberg, KauKauna, WI, and grandchildren, Sydney, Drake, Violet and Per. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, John, and son, Peter.
