Janet Hillier

Janet D. Hillier, age 79, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, October 10, 2014 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
Janet Diane Langlie was born October 13, 1934 in Moorhead, MN to Walter and Evelyn Gilbery Langlie. Jan was the youngest of 3 children and was raised on the family farm outside of Glyndon, MN. Jan was baptized and confirmed in the Glyndon Lutheran Church and graduated from Glyndon High School. Jan attended Concordia College in Moorhead MN, where she majored in Home Economics, graduating in 1956. One of Jan’s most prized possessions was her Cobber ring. After college she traveled around Europe during her summer vacation. Jan met Robert Hillier while teaching at Glenwood High School when Bob was on leave from the Air Force. Bob and Jan were married August 3, 1963 in the Glyndon Lutheran Church. They moved to Walker AFB in Roswell, NM. Their first son was born in 1964 in Roswell. Shortly after his birth they moved to Germany, Morocco, and Italy. During these overseas bases, Jan continued to substitute teach. They finally made their home in Moorhead, MN where Jan continued to substitute teach at area schools. After teaching Jan began working at The Stabo in the West Acres Mall. Jan loved working at The Stabo and continues to have customers ask about her. Jan continued to work there for 15 years until she was diagnosed with Dementia and later Alzheimer’s disease. Jan was an amazing seamstress, and could sew just about anything. She also enjoyed knitting, which she continued to do long after her diagnosis. Jan loved to golf and even had a “hole-in-one”. Jan loved to travel and was able to travel many places in her lifetime. Jan had a kind and gentle heart and was always there to lend a helping hand. Jan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be truly missed.
Jan is survived by her loving husband – Bob, 2 sons – Ross Dawn Hillier and Lance Hillier, 1 daughter – Romina Hillier, 5 grandchildren – Nicolle, Kianna, Aaron, Alex and Derrek and 2 great-grandchildren- Major and Dominic – all of Moorhead; a sister – Marlene Roger Nash, Moorhead; a brother – Eugene Carol Langlie, Glyndon; an aunt – Connie Kopp and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn.
