Laurel Katherine Ecklund

Laurel Katherine Ecklund, 71, of Fargo, ND, passed away on August 15, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

The Grand Forks, ND native was born on March 22, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. She went through school in Grand Forks, graduating from the University of North Dakota in 1967. She married Ted Ecklund on August 12, 1967. Ted was General Manager of Hotels throughout the United States. He preceded Laurel in death on August 24, 1998. Laurel was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Soes Bakke of Grand Forks, and her beloved Grandmother Emma Soes.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Sharpe of Halstad, MN; nephews, Kelly Sharpe of West Fargo, Shane Jennifer Sharpe of Oxbow, ND and their children, Matthew and Abigail.
After working for a period of time at the Ramada Plaza Suites in Fargo, ND, Laurel formed a company called Pet Nannies Plus. Laurel had a similar company in California for several years. Her love of animals gave her years of enjoyment.

Laurel was a member of Alpha Phi, Fargo/Moorhead Chamber of Commerce, Pet Sitters International, and a former board member of the Fargo/Moorhead Humane Society.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN at 1:00PM with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial of ashes will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN at 4:30PM, following the service in Moorhead.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to the Homeward Animal Shelter, 1201 28th Ave. N., Fargo, ND 58102.
