Lawrence D. “Bud” Olmstead
Lawrence D. “Bud” Olmstead, 90, was born on July 28, 1925 in Forman, ND to Orville and Amelia Christensen Olmstead. He passed away on August 23, 2015 at Manor Care in Fargo, ND.
Bud grew up and graduated from high school in Forman, ND. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy Air Force where he served as a tail gunner. Upon his discharge, he came to Fargo, ND and lived out his life in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
On March 15, 1947, he married Alta Colwill and they had one daughter, Sandra. He worked at Swanston Nash, Fruehauf Trailer Company and 43 years at American Crystal Sugar where he was a welder, mechanic, electrician and instrument man. At his retirement he was a Shift Maintenance Superintendent.
Bud loved fixing things and rebuilt several airplanes which he enjoyed flying. Many hours were spent at his amateur radio station talking to people from around the world. Bud loved animals and enjoyed watching the wild turkey and deer that visited daily.
Bud is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alta Cherry; daughter, Sandra Roy Goodin of West Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Nichole, Eric and Ryan of West Fargo, ND and Lindsay Rich Enger of Felton, MN; a brother, Dean Marian Olmstead of Boise, ID; five nephews and a niece; an aunt, Laverle Hansen and several cousins.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clinton Pat and Dale Olmstead, a niece and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
