Lenora Lee

Lenora Mae Lee, 90, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Borup, MN died Friday April 22, 2016 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND. Lenora was born on December 30, 1925 to Olaf and Ella Walstad Wange in Ada, MN. She was baptized January 31, 1926 and confirmed June 20, 1940 in Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN. When Lenora was three years old, her mother Ella died, and Lenora was adopted by Ole and Magnhild Maurstad, who were her mother’s cousin and husband. She grew up near Borup, where the family farmed.
Lenora attended school in Borup and graduated from Borup High School. She attended college in Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO and graduated with a degree in machine bookkeeping. After graduation she worked for Northern States Power in Fargo, ND.
Lenora was married to Herman Hilford Lee on June 4, 1949 in Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup. Herman and Lenora began farming near Borup and specialized in growing and processing certified seeds. In 1965 Lee Seed Farm built a seed conditioning plant on the farm along MN Hwy 9 which became a landmark for travelers for many years. Lenora and Herman had two children, Harlan and Lenae.
She was a lifelong member of Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup, and served for many years as the President and Treasurer of the Winchester Lutheran Women. She also taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, release time, and served many years as the church treasurer. The church held a very dear spot in her life. She also served as a den mother for the Felton Cub Scouts.
Lenora and Herman were active recruiters for the Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, C-400 club where Lenora ultimately served on the board of regents. Lenora served on advisory board for the home economics department when the department was moved to the science building. When Concordia built the bell tower in the center of the campus, Lenora and Herman donated the bells and the cross that sit atop the campanile.
Lenora was preceded in death by her mother and father, her adopted parents, and her husband Herman.
She is survived by her son Harlan Linda Lee, Cambridge, MN; daughter Lenae Mark Harless, Borup, MN; sisters- in- law Ardis Engel, Moorhead and Hilda Lee, Brainerd, MN; grandchildren Jeff Lee, Lewiston, ID; Brandon Alison Lee, West Fargo; Aaron Marion Lee, Greensboro, NC; Paul Danielle Harless, Halstad, MN; Annika Lee Harless, Minneapolis; and great grandchildren Trent, Jaden and Lawson Lee, West Fargo; Ceres, Tiegen, Kasen Lee, West Fargo; Henrik Herman Harless, Halstad, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be given to Winchester Lutheran Church.
Visitation: Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN, and also for one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Friday, April 29, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. in Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.
Interment: Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.
