Lola Smart

Lola A. Smart, 92, of Moorhead, MN died Monday, April 23, 2012 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Lola Adeline Rygg Smart was born on January 26, 1920 in Moorhead, MN to Rasmus and Jennie Nelson Rygg. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1937. Following graduation from Concordia College in 1941, she taught school for two years. Lola married Meryl Smart on June 10, 1943. They lived in Moorhead, MN most of their lives, except for some time in Chicago, IL and North Carolina during WWII. Lola enjoyed the last 57 summers at the family lake place on Pelican Lake, MN. Lola and Meryl became members of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in 1957. Lola is survived by her three sons, Marshal Julie Smart, Scottsdale, AZ, Robert Belinda Smart, Maple Grove, MN and Thomas Smart, Moorhead, MN; brother, Les Norma Rygg; sister, Ruth Engelstad, Moorhead, MN; grandson, Jeffery Shauna Smart, Maple Grove, MN; and great-grandson, Conner Smart. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and two brothers.
