Lonney Rolland

Lonney Rolland, 77, Hawley, MN, died Friday, September 11, 2015 at Viking Manor in Ulen, MN.
Lonney Lee Rolland was born May 25, 1938 in Red Lake Falls, MN to Arvid and Betty Yelle Rolland. They later moved to Duluth, MN and then to St. Hillare, MN where Lonnie attended school , participating in swimming, hockey, and basketball and enjoying his favorite subject, history.
Eventually, Lonney joined the Navy and served on the USS CAPERTON DD650 until 1958. After leaving the Navy, he met and fell in love with Beverly Harms and they were married on October 10, 1959 in Mahnomen, MN. They resided in Mahnomen and had three children, Rhonda, Karen and Eric. The family moved to Two Rivers, WI where Lonney was employed at ECK Foundry until 1974. They then moved back to Minnesota, buying their first home in Hawley. Lonney received his Boilermaker License and started working around the country on many oil refineries and nuclear and conventional power plants until he retired in 2001. He was a member of Local 647 in Elk River.
Lonney enjoyed reading, working on clocks, woodworking, fishing, picture framing and gardening. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. A wonderful father, husband, and grand-father, he will truly be missed.
Lonney is survived by his wife, Beverly, and daughters, Rhonda Wayne Olson, Brooklyn Park, MN and Karen Armand Mayoue, Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Eric Rolland, Hawley; brother, Gerald Rolland, Grand Forks, ND; sister, Carol Rodger Nelson, Alexandria, MN; grandson, Jeffrey Oliver, Fargo, and great-granddaughter, Alexie Escarcega, Anoka, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Lynsey Escarcega.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Ulen Viking Manor and Ginger and Jeff Dauner at Cozy Country Living in Hawley for their wonderful, loving care of Lonney.
