Lucille Langley

June 10, 1923 — November 20, 2013

Lucille Norma Koehn Langley was born on June 10th, 1923 near Hewitt, Minnesota and was the youngest child of her parents John and Ida May Dennis Koehn. She grew up on the family’s farm and was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church of Hewitt. In 1940, Lu graduated from Hewitt High School at age 16. She moved to Moorhead where she worked as a hairdresser, then at Manchester Cookie Company and various other jobs supporting herself while she attended Interstate Business College.

While in the Fargo-Moorhead area, Lucille met her life partner of over 63 years, T. “Mark” Langley, who was attending Concordia College. Their courtship was interrupted by Mark’s enlistment in the Army to serve during WW ll. Upon his return, they were engaged and then married on June 25th, 1950 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Lucille worked in the accounting department of Bell Telephone until 1953. Then they moved to Thief River Falls, MN where their three sons, Brad, David and Dean were born. In 1956, the family moved to Crookston, MN where they were thrilled to welcome a daughter, Jane, to their family.

Lucille and Mark moved to Moorhead in 1967, where all of their children graduated from Concordia College, with Lu supporting each of their life aspirations.
Through these years Lu worked at Herbst Department Store, Royal Jewelers, and Herbergers. She was a loyal, efficient and hard-working employee and enjoyed her relationships with her co-workers and customers.

Lucille was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she participated in Bible Study, the Cheer Circle, Meals on Wheels and was an “auxiliary” member of the “Helping Hands” group.
Lu was a devoted mother and grandmother and supported her family’s varied activities and endeavors. She enjoyed doting on her pet schnauzers, doing word-find puzzles and loved to make people happy through her many domestic skills. Lucille was blessed with strong friendships within her neighborhood, church and community.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; parents John and Ida May Dennis Koehn; brothers Robert and Arnold Koehn; sister Marie Bower; brothers-in-law Roy Bower, Leonard Paulson, John Langley, Wisloff Langley, Ellsworth Pedersen; sisters-in-law LaVerna Koehn, Ruth Koehn, Margaret Pedersen and nephews Dennis and Larry Bower.
