Marian Schanz

Marian Schanz, 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Marian Penner was born on July 17, 1923, to Jacob and Katherine Veer Penner in Langdon, ND. She grew up in Langdon, ND, where she attended school. Marian worked for various farm families in the Langdon area until she met Gerald Schanz. They were married on October 5, 1948, in Langdon, ND, and together they had five children. They farmed for several years at Langdon, ND, Frazee, MN, and Detroit Lakes, MN, before moving to Moorhead, MN, where Marian worked as a cook at St. Ansgar’s Hospital, FM Hotel, and Moorhead State University.

Marian enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Marian is survived by her son, Larry Schanz; her daughters, LaVonne Matson, LaVynia Robert Stern, and LaRayne Schanz; her grandchildren, Cherie Gentry and Andrew Pam Schanz; her great-grandchildren, Savanna, Michael and Tristan Gentry, and Aundra, Mollie and Jacob Schanz; her daughter-in-law, Denise Schanz; and three sisters and five brothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, Leon Schanz; her daughter-in-law, Rose Schanz; and three brothers.

Funeral: Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Interment: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
