Mary Jo Johnson, 71, Moorhead, Minn., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Wednesday, March 23, in Sanford Health Medical Center, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Mary Jo was born November 14, 1944 to Earl and Betty Nickeson Baughman. She graduated from Mt Lebanon High School in 1962. She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1966 with a Teaching degree in Home Economics.
Mary Jo taught Home Economics, at Woodbridge High School, in Virginia, for three years. She then worked for Pepco Electric, in Washington DC, as a Home Economist.
On June 21, 1970 she married David Johnson in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They moved to Moorhead, MN where she taught Home Economics in the Moorhead School district for over thirty years.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband, David; children, Karlye Matthew Retzer, Moorhead, MN; Erik Sara Johnson, Shakopee, MN. She is also survived by four grandchildren Ellie, Abbie, Olivia and Gabe Retzer. Also by her sister Jenny Fred Schad, Cornish Flat, NH and brother James Sue Baughman, Houston PA, sister in-law Dona Garfield Andvik, Moorhead, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Betty Baughman.
Memorials can be made to “Tuesday Quilters” and “Helping Hands” at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or the Parkinson’s foundations.
