Mildred “Millie” Gobernatz

Mildred “Millie” Gobernatz, 90, of Moorhead, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Mildred Opsahl was born on September 18, 1924 to Ole and Ragna Anderson Opsahl. She was born and raised in the Barnesville, MN area and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1942. Millie graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND and was a secretary at many offices in the Fargo-Moorhead area. On April 10, 1947 Millie married Joe Gobernatz in Wild Rice, ND and they had two daughters together. In January 1966, Millie joined the staff of Children’s Village as a secretary, and in 1971 she became a case aide, working mostly in the areas of foster care and adoption. She retired from Children’s Village in 1979. Her husband passed away on August 17, 1996.

Millie was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead in her early years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and she especially loved spending time with her granddaughters.

Millie is survived by her daughters, Mary Gust, Moorhead, and Jean Jerry Mjolsness, Moorhead; her sister, Ruth Orlie Hellem, Fargo; her granddaughters, Jessica David Cariveau, Moorhead, Jenna Greg Johnson, Minneapolis, MN; her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mason and Bryn and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Stanley Opsahl.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Eventide in Moorhead for all the wonderful care they provided to Millie.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Moorhead.
