Peter Olsgaard

Peter Olsgaard, 51, was born in Moorhead to Ted and Norma Olsgaard on June 21, 1962. He died Tuesday, April 29, at Eventide Nursing Home. Pete grew up on a farm near Rustad, MN, where he loved the outdoors – fishing, hunting, motorcycling, snowmobiling and helping out on the farm. The sports he loved included wrestling, skiing, football, and softball. He also enjoyed singing with the choir and Change of Pace at Barnesville High School.
After graduating from high school in 1980, Peter went to North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he received a degree in agri-business. He earned his pilot’s license and, together with his cousin Kevin, purchased a Cessna 172. He also spent a winter working at Winter Park Ski Resort in Colorado.
Peter’s life changed drastically on February 18, 1985 at the age of 22. He was helping local fire departments put out the fire at the Comstock Elevator. An explosion caused debris to strike Pete causing multiple injuries including irreversible brain stem damage. He spent the majority of his remaining years at Eventide Nursing Home, where he was a blessing to the wonderful staff who took such good care of all his needs. The family is grateful for all the love and special care he received.
Peter is survived by his mother, Norma, Fargo; brother, Daniel Jayne, Moorhead; sister Pamela Mark Nielsen, Forest Lake, MN; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted; brother Thomas, and nephew Abraham.
Visitation: Friday, May 2, 2014, from Noon until 2:00 P.M., with a time for sharing at 1:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 10:30 A.M., in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN.
Interment: Hoff Cemetery, Rustad, MN.
