Richard “Dick” Campbell

Richard "Dick" Campbell, 81, of Moorhead, MN died Saturday, June 25, 2011 in Sanford Health's Palliative Care Unit from a long struggle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and Acute Leukemia. Dick was born on March 2, 1930 in Bismarck, ND to Carl and Freida Mueller Campbell. Dick grew up and attended school in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High in 1949. He joined the North Dakota Army National Guard while a junior in High School, serving for nine years. He attended NDSU while working at the National Tea Store in Moorhead, where he met his wife, the former Donna Mae Wentzell. They were married on August 28, 1951 in Sisseton, SD. Together they had four children. Dick worked Northern Pacific Railroad in 1951 and also worked for the North Dakota Guard until April 1955. He then worked Burroughs Corporation, later becoming Unisy's Corporation. He retired in 1995 after working for 40 years. He retired as a Senior Field Engineer Specialist, working out of Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot, ND. Dick and Donna delivered the Forum newspaper for 14 years, retiring in October 2010.Dick enjoyed working down at our property on Lake Lizzie until developing Lymphoma Cancer. He enjoyed fishing, hiking and playing basketball with our grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Richard Jr. Shelene Campbell, Midland, MI; three daughters, Debbie Rittenbach, Ramsey, MN, Denice Bob Kallander, Fargo, ND and Dawn Rob Rose, Wimbledon, ND; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dick is also survived by his sister, Sheila Jim Goecke, Bismarck, ND; three brothers, Douglas Mary Campbell, Wahpeton, ND, William Jeannie Campbell, Beloit, WI and Robert Campbell, Velva, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Freida and Julius Mueller and William and Matilda Campbell; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Thank you to Dr. Leach and staff at Roger Maris Cancer Center, 1 West, and Palliative Care all at Sanford Health, for their outstanding care of Dick.
