Rod Hill

September 27, 1951 — June 3, 2016

Rod Hill, 64, of Moorhead, MN, left this Earth on June 3, 2016, at Crystal Lake Inn, Pelican Rapids, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Rod was born on September 27, 1951, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Arley and Ruth Hill.
Rod graduated from Brookings High School and went on to attend SDSU in Brookings. He married Toni Nelson April, 1971. They moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he began his career with the Unisys Corporation and was later transferred to Fargo, North Dakota, where he continued to work for Unisys until 1991. He continued to work in the electronics field until his health forced him to retire at the age of 49.
Rod was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Nothing meant more to him than his love for the Lord, his family and friends. His wife, children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He loved spending time with them.
Rod had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing his daughters-in-law, Marla and Ronnie, about the Green Bay Packers. He was a sports fan and especially enjoyed the MN Vikings, MN Twins, and NDSU Bison and attending car races with his buddy, Richard. He especially enjoyed music, anything electronic, and antique radios.
Those who knew Rod admired him for his strength and courage. He was so proud of his Norwegian heritage. Despite the many difficulties he faced, he met them with strength and maintained a positive attitude.
Rod was a kind and gentle man. He will be dearly missed and remembered with great love for his big bear hugs.
Rod is survived by his wife of 45 years, Toni, Fargo, ND; son, Jason Marla Hill and their children Emma and Jeremiah, Huron, SD, and son Ryan Ronnie Hill and their daughters Rowan and Rinley, Detroit Lakes, MN; siblings, Marlin Kathy Hill, Joanne Dale Saxton, Elaine Jim Sellers, Eleanor Baudette, Karen Ron Paulson, brother-in-law O’dean Olson. He is also survived by Toni’s parents, Dale and Viola Wagner; her siblings, Jerry Nelson, Theresa David Van Briesen, Jo Peterson, Linda Terry Swartos, Ann Foster, Bing Nelson, Lana Marc Molskness, sister-in-law Julie Anderson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Arley and Ruth Hill; sister, Ardys Olson; father-in-law, Alvin Nelson; and brother-in-law, Rodney Nelson.
A special thanks to the residents and staff of Crystal Lake Inn for making Rod feel at home and being an extended family to all of us.
