Roger “Skeeter” Metcalf

September 13, 1938 – April 25, 2015

Roger Allen Metcalf died April 25th at the age of 76 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, with his family by his side.

Roger was born September 13, 1938 to Banker and Louise Gilbery Metcalf in Moorhead, MN. He grew up with his twin brother, his other two brothers and his little sister in rural Glyndon, MN. Roger was nicknamed “Skeeter” by his father when he was a kid. Roger graduated from Glyndon High School in 1956. Following high school, Roger started work at Northern States Power Xcel Energy for 10 years. After his dad died he took over his school bus business in 1969. Roger ran the busses for Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District for 42 years before retiring. Along with the busses, he also ran his own septic cleaning service in Glyndon from 1977 – 2000. Roger was also a member of the Glyndon Fire Department for 37 years.

Roger married Kathryn Sandland in 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they lived in Glyndon where they raised their three boys.

Roger enjoyed his fishing trips at the end of each school year with his buddies. He also enjoyed golf, watching old westerns, and tinkering on anything that needed fixing. He could fix just about anything. Roger’s biggest thrill was having his family around him. His eyes always lit up when his grandchildren were around. Roger logged thousands of miles and hauled hundreds of kids and always had a smile for everyone. He was very kind and generous and loved by many.

Roger is survived by wife Kathryn of 43 years; two daughters, Nancy Richard Davis of Washington, Jody Girten of California; three sons, Brad Debbie Thompson of Glyndon, Brett Mandi Thompson of Moorhead, Brian Thompson of Moorhead; seven grandchildren, Nathan Andrea Thompson, Kayla Cody Hanson, Katie Thompson, Brooke Brandon Krause, Lindsay Thompson, and Brett and Megan Meyers; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Barb Metcalf, his twin brother, Ron Judy Metcalf, and sister, Margaret Metcalf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James.
