Roy Davis

Roy Davis, 98, Moorhead, MN, formerly Glyndon, MN, died on Sunday, January 4, 2015, in the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.
Roy was born on September 4, 1916, in Barnesville, MN, to William and Lena Erickson Davis. He grew up and attended school in Barnesville and Glyndon, MN, graduating from Glyndon High School in 1936.
He entered the U.S. Army in February of 1941 and served in New Guinea and then in the Philippines on Dinagat, Leyte and Luzon Islands with the 6th Ranger Battalion. He was discharged in late 1945.
Roy married Eula Rea on November 1, 1945 in the First Congregational Church in Moorhead. They made their home in Glyndon, MN, until October of 2000 when they moved to Moorhead.
Eula died on July 16, 2010.
Roy worked for the Great Northern Railroad, retiring in 1976.
In retirement he volunteered at the Golden Living Center in Moorhead. In 2012 he was recognized by the Care Providers of Minnesota Volunteer of the Year, and also in 2012, the Minnesota Activity Professionals Volunteer of the Year, and this past fall he won the SOTY award – Senior of the Year award for the Fargo-Moorhead area. He was also honored as the longest member of the RSVP Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Fargo and Moorhead.
Roy had been a life member of the VFW, and American Legion Club and Glyndon Congregational Church.
Roy is survived by a son, William Davis, Dilworth, MN; and daughter Patricia Davis, Seattle, WA; two granddaughters Lisa Jordahl, Fargo, ND, and Tamara Davis, Smyrna, GA; and two great-granddaughters Madison and Emily Jordahl.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula; brothers Edward, Clarence and Orville; and sister Lillian.
Roy’s family would like to thank Dr. Bier and the staff at Roger Maris Cancer Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and the Golden Living Center for the care they provided.
Visitation: Wednesday, January 7, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 1:30 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.
