Ruth Johnson

Ruth Johnson, 93, Moorhead, MN, died on Friday, September 5, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN. Ruth Rosa Korus was born on January 7, 1921, on the family farm north of Denhoff, ND, to John and Rosa Bergstrazer Korus. She attended primary school in rural Denhoff, and then attended and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1938. She graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo and then went to work for Armour Company in West Fargo, ND.
Ruth married William Bill Johnson on October 28, 1943, in San Francisco while he was serving in the Navy in the Pacific. When his ship was transferred to the Atlantic, she moved to Boston before returning to Fargo in 1945 with Bill. They subsequently made their home in south Moorhead. After raising her family, she returned to work as a bookkeeper and manager for several area credit unions, including the Moorhead Co-op Credit Union and Railroad Employees’ Credit Union. She retired in 1978 when Bill and she moved to Long Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN, where they lived until Bill’s death in 1993. After living in Detroit Lakes for several years, she returned to Moorhead and resided for the last seven years at the Eventide Linden Tree Circle apartments.
Ruth’s greatest pleasures involved time spent with friends and family; especially if she could work in a few games of bridge or pinochle, at which she excelled. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was particularly proud of having twelve great grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her children, Barbara Ken Raschke, St. Louis Park, MN, Douglas Susanna Frenkel Johnson, Bemidji, MN, Loren Nancy Johnson, Rochert, MN, and Carol Paul Krabbenhoft, Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren and her adored great grandchildren; and sister Norma Otis McCain, Lafayette, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Bill; brothers, John, Gideon, Wilbert, Willie and Ray Korus; and sisters, Emma Thimgan, Ella Liebig, Frieda Elfeldt, and Delillia Kandris.
Memorials may be given to Eventide or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation: Tuesday, September 9, 2014, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 3:30 P.M., in the Bottolfson Chapel at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
Funeral: Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. in Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
