Sandra Jeanne Kowalski Reitan, 72, Fargo, ND, died on Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Sandra Jeanne Kowalski was born on October 1, 1941, in Moorhead, MN, to Fred and Helen Kaiser Kowalski. She grew up and attended school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Moorhead before graduating from Moorhead High School in 1959.
Sandra married James Reitan on June 20, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead.
She went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. In 1960 she went to work at Dakota Clinic / Hospital where she retired from in 2007.
Sandra had been a member of the American Legion Auxilliary, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, AHIMA the American Health Information Management Association which she served as president of the North Dakota chapter in 1996, the Cancer Registry Organization, Campfire Council, Shanley School Board, and had worked with US, TOO a prostate cancer support group. She also taught Sunday school at Holy Spirit in Fargo.
Sandra and James had just celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary on June 20, 2014.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Jim Reitan; daughters Stephanie Aaron Marshall, Eagen, MN, and Suzanne Reitan, Fargo, ND; brother John Janine Kowalski, Glyndon, MN; sister Marie Mortenson, St. Paul, MN; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Sherbrooke; and a special friend Sheri Ekren Batesole. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. in the Cathedral of St. Mary, in Fargo, ND.
Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
