Stanley Sandvik

Stanley Norman Sandvik, 71, of rural Audubon, MN, died on January 28, 2016 at his winter home in Pharr, TX.

Stan was born on July 31, 1944 in Cooperstown, ND to Nels and Sarah Sandvik. As a child working on a farm, Stan was taught how to ride horses, and eventually began racing as a jockey at county fairs, an activity that he loved. Most of his schooling was in Cooperstown and he graduated from high school in Litchville, ND in 1962. He attended the University of North Dakota for one year before enlisting in the US Army in 1965. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and returned to UND, graduating in 1970. In October 1967, he married Charlotte Watne and had one son, Todd. In June 1989, he married Bonnie Nettinga. Stan worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 46 years. In 1984, he joined Widmer Roel as a partner. Throughout his life and career, Stan was very active with numerous organizations. These include Past President of the North Dakota Society of CPAs, AICPA, Ronald McDonald Society, MS Society, District Chair North Dakota Republican Party, Jaycee’s, Lions International, American Legion, and President of Winter Haven Retirement Park in Pharr, TX. He was also an active member at Cormorant Lutheran Church of Lake Park, MN, where he served in many capacities.

Stan was extremely devoted to his family. For his 60th birthday, he took his kids and grandkids to Disney World. Since then his family has grown even more which gave him great joy as he always wanted to spend time with his grandchildren and take in their activities. Stan was also an avid Sioux Hockey fan. Always interested in meeting people, he knew no strangers. Stan loved fellowship with anyone from any background, and he was a true patriot. Stan had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and was confident of his eternal home.

Stan is survived by his wife Bonnie Nettinga, son Todd Sandvik Alison of Fargo, ND, step-sons Kelly DeBerg of Sioux Falls, SD and Troy DeBerg Toni of Fargo, ND. Five grandchildren: Richard, Andrew, Eli, Olivia & Benjamin. Brother: Clarence Sandvik JuliAnn of Cooperstown, ND.. Brothers-in-law: Ron Sandy and Gerry Nettinga and sister-in-law: Sharla Keith Boone, of Sioux Center, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nels & Sarah Sandvik, brothers Neil, Arne, Ted, and sister Joanne.
