Susan Maier

Susan B. Maier, 61, of Hawley, MN, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, at Bethany on University in Fargo.

Susan Brenda Motl was born January 25, 1956, in Wadena, MN, to Donovan and Betty Johnson Motl. She grew up in the Staples, MN area and after graduating from high school she attended Brainerd Technical College where she obtained a degree in management and finance.

Susan was united in marriage to Andrew Maier on November 27, 1993, at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, and they made their home there until moving to Hawley around 2008. Susan’s first employment was with a grocery store but over the years she worked several other places including Kenny’s Candy in Perham, Stearns Rubber in Staples, and RDO Frozen Food in Park Rapids.

With a great love for nature and spending time outdoors, Susan enjoyed gardening, going for long walks with Andrew and caring for animals of all kinds, including fish, rabbits and cats. Susan and Andrew loved cooking together, and over the years they created many wonderful concoctions. They also shared many special memories of walking on the shores of Lake Superior together, just enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful nature around them.

Susan is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 23 years, Andrew; her brother, Dennis Shannon Motl, of Robbinsdale, MN, and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda.

A visitation will be held from noon to 1:00 P.M. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.
