Wallace Schulz

Wallace Paul Schulz, 90, formerly of Minot and Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, 12 April 2017 in Marquette, Michigan.
Wallace was born on 19 October 1926 in Cass County, North Dakota. The son of Richard and Margaret née Jonsson Schulz, he was raised on the family farm near Amenia, North Dakota and attended school in Absaraka.
Wallace was inducted into the Army in 1950 and served in Korea where he was stationed at Taegu army base near Pusan, South Korea. Wallace was honorably discharged in October 1952.
After discharge from the army, Wallace returned to the Fargo area where he met Phyllis Ann McQueen. They were united in marriage in Fargo, North Dakota on 29 February 1956.
Wallace worked several different jobs in the Fargo area, eventually obtaining a job as brakeman for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1953. In 1970, Northern Pacific merged with other lines to form the Burlington Northern Railroad from which he retired in 1988. At that time, he was the last regular brakeman working.
After retiring, Wallace remained active by obtaining his auctioneers license. He auctioned in both the Fargo and Minot areas for many years until 2011. Wallace was the oldest practicing auctioneer in North Dakota. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and most of all his friends, many of whom he remained in contact with after relocating to Marquette, MI.
Wallace is survived by children, Michael Catherine Schulz of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Scott Patricia Schulz of Skandia, Michigan; Grandchildren, Christie Schulz-Lokken Jason, Mikel Shallen Schulz, Katrina Aaron Lancelle, Nicholas Ashley Schulz, and Colin Schulz; and Six great-grandchildren; brother, George Schulz of Pelican Rapids, MN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; Phyllis, his wife of thirty- three years; sister Delores Hanson, and brother Carl Schulz.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
