Adeline "Addie" (Altenhofen) Bencker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Pat & Lea Bencker's home at the age of 86 (10 days shy of 87).

Addie was born April 1, 1939, and raised near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Addie was very active in the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church and volunteered to go to other Mennonite Churches to help with Summer Vacation Bible School when she was in high school. While helping at the Cass Lake Mennonite Church she met the love of her life Orville Bencker, they were united in marriage October 20, 1957, at the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church near Ogema, Minnesota.

Addie was a great seamstress making clothes and quilts. She loved reading her Bible and many other books. She always had flower gardens and large vegetable gardens for many years. The whole family participated in harvesting by canning vegetables and fruits for jelly and jam. She loved cooking and taught each of her children to cook. She was also a great baker, making homemade bread (at least 6 loaves weekly), including buns, pies, cakes, bars, cookies, donuts and cinnamon rolls. Addie also worked several years rolling lefse at Carl's Lefse in Hawley, she often said it was the easiest job she ever had and loved it. Addie also loved to put out birdfeeders and identify the birds and watch the wildlife. Addie also loved putting lots of puzzles together, and completing crosswords and word searches.

Addie survived cancer for many years until very recently it reared its ugly head one more time, this one was harder to battle and Jesus took her home.

Addie is survived by her children, Phyllis (Bencker) Prestegord, Jody (Shanon) Bencker, Pat (Lea) Bencker and Wendy (Bencker) Davison. Her sister Joy (Donald) Gilbert. Sister-in-law's Glenda Altenhofen, Joyce (Bencker) Stark and Judy Bencker and brother-in-law's Al Keith and Jude McGloin. 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way, and many nieces.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Orville Bencker, sons Lowell Bencker and Jeffrey Bencker, son-in-law David Prestegord. Her parents Jacob P. and Charlotte "Rose" (Allen) Altenhofen and siblings Benjamin Altenhofen, Edna Altenhofen, Henry Altenhofen, Mary "Jayne" (Altenhofen) Williams, Helen (Altenhofen) Wichern, Ila (Altenhofen) George, Linda (Altenhofen) Allrich, LeRoy Altenhofen, Elsie (Altenhofen) Keith, Florence (Altenhofen) Johnson and Carolyn (Altenhofen) McGloin.
