Alan Curtis Blake, 76, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, in his home. He was born on August 24th, 1945, to George and Monica (Schultz) Blake in Chelan, WA. He moved to Ada, MN, when he was two years old and attended school there until 6th grade. His family moved to Dilworth where he attended and graduated from high school where he excelled in athletics. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States military serving in the Navy. After his military service, he moved back to Dilworth and attended Moorhead State College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts.
Alan began working for Fargo National Bank as a computer programmer. He taught in schools in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana before moving to Yakima, WA, where he managed a 7-11. He moved back to Dilworth and was a substitute teacher in the Fargo/Moorhead area. He began working for American Crystal Sugar for several years before his retirement.
Alan loved to practice golf and enjoyed bowling. He was mathematically gifted and would often be found reading a book. He also enjoyed doing yard work around the house, playing cribbage, and occasionally went fishing. Alan was a private, very independent, and strong-willed individual.
Alan is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Stephanie (Tom) Hobbins; granddaughter, Tessa Hobbins; siblings, Wayne (Shirley), Kenneth (Lucille), Clifford, and Richard (Judy) Blake; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Monica.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. The service will be livestreamed on Alan’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found. Final resting place will be at Fargo National Cemetery, Fargo, ND, at a later date.
