Arthur N. "Art" Marvig, 83, of Hawley, Minnesota, died Monday, March 23, 2009, in the Viking Manor Nursing Home, in Ulen, Minnesota.Art was born May 21, 1925, to Olai and Hannah Anderson Marvig. He grew up and attended rural country school north of Hawley, Minnesota. He served in the US Army from 1950-56; he served as a medic in the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. He worked at the Hawley Locker Plant for a short time and later for S.A. Torgerson John Deere Co./Hawley Implement where he was part-time until retiring in 1982. In 1956, he became a substitute rural letter carrier turning full-time in 1963. Before retiring in 1989, he had served all three Hawley area routes. On September 7, 1957, Art married Delores Nelson in Hawley, Minnesota. Art enjoyed going for drives, his hunting trips to deer camp with his buddies, and visiting with people. Most of all, he loved his family. He loved attending all the things his grandchildren participated in and took great pride in all their accomplishments, he rarely missed an event. His favorite place was his back yard where he and Delores taught all their grandchildren how to have fun.Art is survived by his wife, Delores Marvig, Hawley, MN; one son, Dean Kay Marvig, Hawley, MN; two daughters, Sandra Scott Sorenson, Hawley, MN, and Annette Mike Roquemore, Torrance, CA; one brother, Joseph Lorraine Marvig, Rollag, MN; and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Howard, Maurice, and Clifford Marvig.
