Barbara Ann "Barb" Varriano-Hegre

Barbara Ann “Barb” Varriano-Hegre, 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in West Fargo, ND, surrounded by her loving family.

Barb was born on May 12, 1934, to Walter and Doris (Penn) Tibbetts in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Moorhead, MN, where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1952. She worked for the IRS for one year prior to attending MSU. She was united in marriage to Cosmo “Moochie” Varriano on November 24, 1954. He passed away in March of 1984. Barb worked for Moorhead Public Services for 13 years before working as a loan officer. She provided her services to 1st National Bank from 1967 – 1996, and then with Gate City Bank from 1996 to 2005 when she retired. She was united in marriage to Gordon “Gordy” Hegre on January 15, 2000. Gordy passed away in March of 2019.

Barb was an active member of the Soroptimist Group. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an animal lover, especially dogs, and loved to travel, partaking in many cruises and wintering in Arizona and Nevada. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and went to lunches with her women’s groups and her friends.

Barb is survived by her children, Teresa Smith, Cindy Varriano, Julie (Michael) Varriano Walsh, and Anita (Mark) Varriano-Hetler; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Nicole Walsh, Tyler (Regina) Varriano, Joe Emmerich, Tory (Greg) Hebert, Tony (Kaitlin) Emmerich, Jonathan (Kristie) Walsh, and Samantha (Devyn) Nelson; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Moochie Varriano, her second husband, Gordy Hegre, and her son, Andy Varriano.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 27, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
