Barry Lee Bauer

Barry Lee Bauer, 76, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died August 13, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Barry was born March 5, 1949, in Eureka, SD, to Clarence and Elizabeth (Huber) Bauer. He attended high school in Herried, SD and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He was united in marriage to Janice Boschker on September 2, 1972, in Herried, SD. Barry graduated from Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo and spent most of his life working in car sales and management. For several years he was employed with Muscatell in Hawley, and he retired from Park Rapids Ford just a few years ago.

In his spare time, Barry loved making things for other people and woodworking was his special gift. Over the years many of his friends and family members received his handcrafted crosses, stars and nameplates as gifts. He also loved fishing in his younger years.

Barry is survived by his wife, Jan, Detroit Lakes, MN; his son, Bobby Bauer ( Mackenzie Schram and her children, Leon, Quinn and Connor), Horace, ND; his grandchildren, Jalyn Bauer (Brett Besenfelder), Fargo, Tate Bauer, Minneapolis, MN and Brady Bauer, Horace; his brother, Terry (Kathy) Bauer, Herried, SD; his sister-in-law, Joanne Bauer, Herried, SD, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley Bauer.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation for one hour before the service, at Herreid Baptist Church, 208 Elm St., Herreid, SD. Burial will take place at a later date at Fargo National Cemetery.

The family will host a Celebration of Life for family and friends September 20, 2025, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, at 21795 N. Pearl Lake Rd., Detroit Lakes, MN. 56501.
