Ben James “B.J” Kemp, 67, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.

B.J. was born on July 28, 1958, to James and Sharon (Johnson) Kemp in Fargo, ND. He grew up in Moorhead, MN where he attended and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1976. He went on to attend Concordia College. He continued living and working in Moorhead where his career path took many roads, most notably as an over-the-road trucker and as an HVAC technician. These jobs took him all over the country and enjoyed traveling to the many destinations his career took him. Due to health concerns Ben retired early, remaining in Moorhead ever since.

B.J. could fix just about anything and would often receive a phone call or a message asking for his assistance. He would quickly make his way to the problem and fix it on the spot. He could even talk people through the problem and fix it over the phone.

B.J. is survived by his children, Kathryn (Matt Mench) Kemp, Honolulu, HI, and Kevin (Marly) Kemp; his mother, Sharon Kemp; siblings, Ronald (Nadine) Kemp and Adele (Louis) Tomsu; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, James Kemp.

B.J.’s family would like to extend their gratitude to HIA Hospice for the excellent care they provided.

A family service will be held at a later date in the spring.
