Carol Joan Mcdonald

May 15, 1940 — January 28, 2019

Carol Joan (Thurlow) McDonald passed away at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND on January 28, 2019. She was born May 15, 1940 in Kensil, ND, to Wayne and Velma Thurlow and grew up on a farm at Gardner, ND.

Carol married Don “Mick” McDonald on November 22, 1958. They lived in Fargo, ND after they were married and some years later moved to Mooreton, ND where they owned and operated “The Farmers Bar” for many years.

After returning to Fargo, Carol worked as a para professional at South High School until her retirement.

Carol and Mick enjoyed many years at their lake place on Star Lake in Dent, MN.

Carol was an avid basketball player in high school. One of the highlights in her life was when her team won State Championship in 1955, 1956, and 1958 and were honored 50 years later at the Girls State Basketball Tournament in 2005, 2006, and 2008. She was thrilled to walk across the gym floor with her team mates one more time.

Carol was loved by all who knew her and could tell the best jokes, especially “Ole and Lena” jokes in good old “Ole accent.”

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Phyllis) McDonald, Loveland CO, and Kermit McDonald, Mt. Home, AR; sister, Marjorie (Bill) Geatz; grandchildren, Kyle (Heather) McDonald, Dillon (Courtney) McDonald, and LeLeah Sarah (Geoff) Miser; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Ryder, Miles, and Brynn McDonald, Lillianna and Greyson Miser. She is preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Velma; her husband, Mick; and grandson, Skyler McDonald.

A private celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date.
