Carol M. Sylvander

Carol M. Sylvander, 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at home under the care of family and Sanford Hospice.

Carol Marlys Swenson was born August 24, 1935, to Norval and Myrtle Swenson in Thief River Falls, MN. Carol graduated from Thief River Falls High School. On February 9, 1957, she married Dale Sylvander in Thief River Falls, MN. Together they lived in Fulda, Germany while Dale was serving in the U.S. Army. Dale and Carol then returned to the United States with their first son, Steven Sylvander in 1959.

Carol worked for SuperValu in Fargo, ND, for approximately 35 years. Their purchase of a home south of Moorhead in 1971 was one of their best decisions. Carol enjoyed everything about her home and stated it often. Carol and Dale travelled the country, from camping in the Redwood trees to visiting the Statue of Liberty. They were members of Assembly of God church in Fargo, ND, for many years. They were also members of the River Valley Church in Dilworth, MN.

Carol’s family is so grateful for having her for 90 years. It gave us a chance to tell her how we admired her in so many ways. In her later years, she loved to meet her sisters and their families to enjoy time together.

Carol is survived by her sons, Steven Sylvander of New Brighton, MN, Bruce (Elizabeth) Sylvander of Dilworth, MN, and Kent Sylvander of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Joshua Murphy of Leland, NC, and Chelsea Murphy of Dundee, MI; sisters, LaVonne Austad of Lake Bronson, MN, Janice Booen of Grand Forks, ND; brother, Dale (Geraldine) Swenson of Thief River Falls, MN; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; mother, Myrtle Lofgren; father, Norval Peter Swenson; sisters, Eileen Purdy and Shirley Swenson; and brothers-in-law, Don Austad, Robert Purdy and Richard Booen.

The Sylvander family would like to thank Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, and Sanford Hospice in Fargo, ND, for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be at Moorhead Memorial Gardens following the service.
