Clare Frances Beckett

August 12, 1934 — December 9, 2021

Clare Frances Singer was born on August 12, 1934, in Moorhead, MN to Louis and Myrtle Singer. She was named, with permission from Louis and Myrtle, by the Franciscan Sisters because she was born on St. Clare’s day. She met William Robert Beckett in 1950, and married on December 4, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN. They lived in Moorhead, Rochester and Glyndon, Minnesota, and finally Moorhead, MN in 1987. In 1984 Clare and Bill started an engraving business, Clare’s Engraving, and sold that business in 1999.

Clare led a full and active life. Since 1970, Clare has been a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, a church that her parents helped start. And in later years Judy, a very good friend from St. Cecilia’s brought her to church on Sundays. Family was very important to Clare and Bill, spending summer months at the lakes and enjoying camping with family and friends. They made a point to attend and celebrate family weddings or social events. After Bill passed away in 2009, she continued to enjoy numerous celebrations until travel became too difficult. At home when visitors arrived, she always had a puzzle or a game of solitaire started and was happy to play numerous games of Fast Track or Rummikub.

Clare passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Lilac Homes, Moorhead, MN.

Clare is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (Larry) Hanus, Bemidji, MN, Joyce (Ron) Flaig, Fargo, ND, Kathy (Roger) Liljequist, St. Cloud, MN; siblings: Nancy (Sheldon) Kankovsky, Felton, MN, David (Carolyn) Singer, Prior Lake, MN, Diane Velaski, Menomonie, WI, Peter (Sandy) Singer, Punta Gorda, Fl; seven grandchildren, Christine (David) Zukin, Leah (Brian) Domine, Matt (Kari) Liljequist, Abby Liljequist, Patrick (Rachel) Laurich, Alexa (John) Fetzer, Bart (Camille Brown) Hanus; five great-grandchildren, Jackson and Faye Domine, Charlotte Fitch, Alexander Hanus, and Laurel Zukin; and many nieces and nephews.
