Clayton Hoyme

February 18, 1932 — January 21, 2022

Clayton Melvin Hoyme, 89, of Fargo, ND, died January 21, 2022, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND.

Clayton was born on February 18, 1932, in Comstock, MN, to Florence (Taasaas) and Torval Hoyme. He grew up on a farm near Comstock, was baptized March 20, 1932, and confirmed June 2, 1946, at Comstock Lutheran Church. He graduated from Comstock High School on June 12, 1950. Clayton enlisted in the Army in November of 1953 during the Korean War and served in Germany. Upon his return from military service, he worked at the Comstock Elevator and farmed, retiring in 1995.

On July 14, 1973, Clayton and Jeanette Kurtz, Jamestown, ND, were married at Comstock Lutheran Church. They made their home in Moorhead, MN. In August 2019, they moved to Bethany on 42nd.

Clayton was an avid sports enthusiast. He played basketball in high school and fast pitch softball in area leagues. He enjoyed attending many softball, baseball, and basketball games and tournaments and was a devoted Twins, Bison, Dragons, Cobbers, and RedHawks supporter. He was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, VFW, and Comstock Lutheran Church.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Jeanette; sister Margaret (Charles) Hetherington, Oxford, FL,  and brothers Harvey (Geraldine), Kindred, ND and Curtis (Deborah), Fargo.  He is also survived by nieces Vicki Mullikin, Dilworth, MN and Marit (Steven) Haman, Fargo; nephews Kevin Hetherington, Salt Lake City, UT, David (Diane) Hetherington, The Villages, FL, Darren (Kristin) Hoyme, Kindred, Joel (Tara) Hoyme, Kindred, Derek (Angela) Hoyme, Woodbury, MN, and Daniel (Kathleen) Hoyme, San Antonio, TX; 17 grand nieces and nephews, and 5 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Torval; brother Roger and sister-in-law Lila, and brother Donald.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation for one hour before the service, at Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock, MN.  Interment will be at Comstock Lutheran Cemetery.
