Danny Blomquist, 77, of Moorhead, Minn., passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, N.D., after a courageous 6-year battle with colon cancer that had metastasized to his lungs.

Danny was born Feb. 7, 1949, to Johnny and Edna (Rice) Blomquist. He grew up on the family farm, east of Hallock, Minn. Danny graduated from Hallock High School in 1967 and graduated from University of Minnesota- Crookston in 1969.

On Oct. 18, 1975, he married his beloved wife, Angela Salwei. A few years later, they welcomed their daughter, Melanie. She and her husband, Dirk Hanson, blessed Danny with two granddaughters, Ava and Abigail, and a dog named Blaze. After enjoying most of their life in Hallock, Danny and Angela retired in Moorhead to be closer to family.

Danny spent years working for C&M Ford and later CHS and Cadieux Farms, while also giving back to his community. He served 20 years with the Hallock Fire Department, participated in the Jaycees, Eagles and Lions Club, and donated over 13 gallons of blood over the years. Retirement didn’t mean sitting still, though. He kept busy doing what he loved, including mowing the fairways at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead.

Danny loved dancing, jogging, biking, fishing, and anything that involved active participation. Throughout the years, he played lots of sports, but his favorites were golf and hockey. Not only did he participate in sports, he also enjoyed watching, listening to and reading about them. One of his proudest achievements was his hole-in-one at Two River Golf Course in Hallock.

His unique and hearty laughter will be remembered by all who knew him. It was perfectly Danny. He was an encouraging, positive and empathetic spirit, and genuinely wanted the very best for his family and friends, even strangers.

Danny lived his faith quietly, through daily devotions and the kindness he showed to others. He was proud of his 36 years of sobriety and remained committed to his 12-step program. He rarely missed one of his granddaughters’ activities and was always willing to give his time and help to others, never expecting anything in return. Danny had a way of making people feel special and cared for.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Angela; daughter, Melanie and her husband, Dirk; granddaughters, Ava and Abigail; his grandpup, Blaze; and a lifetime of stories and memories made with family and friends. While we are heartbroken by his passing, we take comfort that he is at peace. He will be deeply missed.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Edna, and his brother, Monte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kittson County Historical Society, Kittson Memorial Foundation, Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, Minn., Perry's Paws pet rescue of Kennedy, Minn., or a charity of your choice. You can also honor Danny’s memory simply by donating blood, lending a helping hand or doing a good deed for someone in need.

A funeral service with Livestream will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
